brittany greeson
Greeson was born in Houston, Texas in 1993 and spent her childhood hopping from Appalachia, to the Carolinas and finally to Kentucky where she earned her B.A. in sociology at Western Kentucky University.
Greeson is an independent photographer primarily working with national news outlets and is based in Detroit, Michigan. Her work has been presented in The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, Reuters, The Ground Truth Project, ESPN, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, The Atlantic, AARP, The Bleacher Report, Vice Magazine, Bloomberg, TIME, Mother Jones, Buzzfeed News, Narratively, Victory Journal, Teach for America’s One Day Magazine, Education Week, Yahoo News, Getty Images, and The Detroit Free Press.
Prior to freelancing, she interned at The Oregonian, The Roanoke Times, The Flint Journal, The Washington Post, The San Antonio Express News and was an international student at The Danish School of Media and Journalism in Aarhus, Denmark.
In the Fall of 2015, she was awarded the Atlanta Photojournalism Workshop’s Dave Martin Student Grant to continue work documenting the ongoing water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
In 2016, she was awarded first place in the Hearst Journalism Awards National Championship and joined the Emerging Talent roster with Getty Images.
Most recently, she was a reporting fellow for a project titled “Crossing the Divide” with The Ground Truth Project. She subsequently received the 2018 Michigan Press Photographer of the Year award from the Michigan Press Photographers Association. She hopes to continue documenting American daily life and issues of socioeconomic and gender inequality.
